John Stainer's "Seven Greater Antiphons" can be performed as a set, forming the basis of an Advent concert or carol service, or excerpted for use as regular anthems during the Advent season. They are almost unique among the Great O Antiphon repertoire in being both in English and well within the reach of any SATB Sunday morning choir, with simple four-part hymn texture writing and straightforward organ accompaniment.
