Horatio Parker's boisterous Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in E major, Op. 18, first published by Novello in 1892, is among the finest American contributions to the evening canticle repertoire. The Magnificat's glorious "world without end" fugue must be heard to be believed!
The fifth release in Catchword's Ticonderoga Series, featuring works by American composers of the late 19th and early 20th century.

HORATIO PARKER (1863–1919) studied composition under Josef Rheinberger in Munich before returning to the United States, where he held prominent church music positions in New York and Boston. In 1894 he was appointed Dean of the Yale School of Music, a position he held until his death. His students at Yale included Charles Ives. His oratorio Hora Novissima (1893) was performed at the Three Choirs Festival in 1899, making Parker the first American composer to be so honored.
