Parker — Jam sol recedit [SATB]

Best remembered today as Charles Ives' teacher at Yale, Horatio Parker was a composer of superb choir and organ music like this sumptuous Vespers anthem.

This edition marks the first publication of Jam sol recedit in its original key of G flat, and restores the original Latin text underlay.

Iam sol recedit igneus:
Tu lux perennis Unitas,
nostris, beata Trinitas,
infunde lumen cordibus. 

Te mane laudum carmine,
Te deprecamur vespere;
digneris ut te supplices
laudemus inter caelites. 

Patri, simulque Filio,
tibique sancte Spiritus,
sicut fuit, sit iugiter
saeclum per omne gloria.

As fades the glowing orb of day,
to Thee, great source of light, we pray;
blest Three in One, to every heart
Thy beams of live and love impart.
