Lang — Grant, we beseech Thee [SATB + organ]

Little known today, Margaret Ruthven Lang (1867–1972) found success as a young composer in the heady music scene of 1880s Boston before giving up composition in middle age. This brooding setting from 1912 builds from a taut organ ostinato to a lush resolution.

Grant, we beseech thee, merciful Lord, to thy faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve thee with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
