Part of Catchword's Gallus Carniolus series, and the only performance-ready edition of this work available as of publication. While Handl's four-voice setting of this medieval carol enjoys a certain fame, his magnificent five-voice version has remained virtually unknown. The fifth voice enables cascading canonical effects and alternating choral textures that are hallmarks of Handl's craft. The writing is sonorous, rollicking Renaissance polyphony at its most festive, with melodic turns of grace and tenderness.
