Handl/Gallus — Ascendo ad Patrem meum [SSATBB]

This short, poignant motet is a true gem of late-Renaissance polyphony. Voices are layered imitatively in richly-textured cascade effects, giving the sensation of constant upward motion. 

Ascendo ad Patrem meum et Patrem vestrum,
  Deum meum et Deum vestrum. Alleluia.
Elevatis manibus benedixit eis 
  et ferebatur in coelum. Alleluia.

I ascend to my Father and your Father,
  my God and your God.
With hands raised he blessed them
  and was carried into heaven.
