Amy Beach's Deus misereatur is the second of her four Op. 78 canticles, a complete setting of Psalm 67 in English for SATB and organ. By turns brooding and exubeant, this is American Romantic church music at its best: extroverted, dramatic, chromatic, tuneful, exciting.
Coming into print for the first time since the original 1916 Schirmer edition.
Recommended recording: The Canticle of the Sun: Sacred Choral Works by Beach, Stanford, Wood, the Charles Wood Singers and David Hill (available on Spotify and Apple Music)
God be merciful unto us, and bless us : and shew us the light of his countenance, and be merciful unto us:
That thy way may be known upon earth : thy saving health among all nations.
Let the people praise thee, O God : yea, let all the people praise thee.
O let the nations rejoice and be glad : for thou shalt judge the folk righteously, and govern the nations upon earth.
Let the people praise thee, O God : let all the people praise thee.
Then shall the earth bring forth her increase : and God, even our own God, shall give us his blessing.
God shall bless us : and all the ends of the world shall fear him.
Psalm 67
